Datacoin mining solo - CPU mining on Linux - Easy setup

-----------PLEASE VISIT HTTP://WWW.IZANTE.COM FOR AN UPDATED GUIDE  -----

-----------THE FOLLOWING GUIDE MIGHT NO BE CURRENT------------

Datacoin is another new coin

Datacoin is intended to be reliable censorship-free data storage and a currency to pay for this storage.

Data is stored in the blockchain "forever" (as long as blockchain exists) and can be retrieved with transaction hash as an identifier. It is considered as a platform to be used by applications (and not directly by users): torrent trackers, encrypted messaging services, etc. Blockchain is not considered as a place to store heavy data like video files: this should be too expensive. Instead developers can store torrent files, certificates, possibly some HTML pages and other kinds of meta-information in Datacoin blockchain.

That looks promising!  So now it is time to mine it using digital ocean's droplet. You do not need to know any linux, just follow the next 3 steps and you will be mining in linux in a few minutes. Get yourself an old machine and install Ubuntu server or get a virtual machine.

So, I will mine the usual way, using a digital Ocean droplet.
Digital Ocean in case you don't know offers you on demand linux systems. You can have a linux machine working in a few minutes just by visiting the link , paying them 5 USD upfront, following my tutorial, and start mining. You can use the lowest machine as the difficulty is not so high now.
Get your hands on a droplet in digital ocean or any other Ubuntu 13 x64 and start mining.
This guide will be very short as you can use my .sh script to setup a fresh Ubuntu from scratch.

Every time you reboot your server or droplet it will recompile the newest client from the gituhub repo and will start mining

So, login as root and then :

  1. wget upg.gr/datacoin.sh
  2. chmod 755 datacoin.sh
  3. ./datacoin.sh
Wait for a few minutesd and then just sit back watch the compiling and a nice status page with your stats.

To  send you coins to your main wallet (the ones you have collected) open another session (right click putty - duplicate session, login) run this :

cd datacoin
cd datacoin-hp-master
cd src
./datacoind sendtoaddress DPkFwdoMvzomFhgH2H7pu47MxoEg5XXxNV 500
(replace your address and the number of coins to send)

If you have any doubts about what you are running check my source code at : http://upg.gr/datacoin.sh

-----------THE FOLLOWING GUIDE MIGHT NO BE CURRENT------------

Protoshare is very new - 3 weeks old (!) at the time of this post with a difficulty that is not even worth mentioning

I decided to start mining it and wait to see it rise. Things look promising with this one as it is impossible to mine with GPU and FPGA so it will be good to mine for a few months and get some thousands hopefully.

So, I will mine the usual way, using a digital Ocean droplet.
Digital Ocean in case you don't know offers you on demand linux systems.
You can have a linux machine working in a few minutes just by visiting the link , paying them 5 USD upfront, following my tutorial, and start mining. You can use the lowest machine for now.

  3. ./protoshares.sh
Then just sit back watch the compiling and a nice status page with your stats.

To set the miner to send you coins to your main waller open another session (right click putty - duplicate session, login) run this :

  1. ./protosharesd sendtoaddress BmEDtZzGbjGvbRmQZdPUTHFWsQkMBJA51J 500
(replace your address and the number of coins to send)

Primecoin [XMP] Easy mining on Ubuntu

-----------PLEASE VISIT HTTP://WWW.IZANTE.COM FOR AN UPDATED GUIDE  -----

So you want to mine Primecoins.

So you want to mine Primecoins.
See this analysis bellow for today : (30/11/2013)
The current price of 1 Primecoin (XPM) = 0.00640010 Bitcoins (BTC)
The current payout barrier for the only good pool (http://beeeeer.org) is 3.01 XPM
3.01 XPM equals to 0.0192003 BTC
0.0192003 BTC = 21.86 USD
Your aim is to mine 3.01 XPM as fast as possible at current difficulty 9.985399019
To mine 3.01 Primecoins per 24 hours you need about 21 Chains Per Day.
At this rate you can make 655 USD per month
On my MacMini (2010) I can make 1 chain per day,
On a big HP server with dual XEON I can make 2.5 chains a day
On the 20 Core Droplet in Digital Ocean you can make 2.6 chains a day
You would need about 8 of those machines to achieve this. (This means that you would need 2 accounts as there is a 5 droplet limit per account).
When you signup you pay $5 through paypal and get a bonus of $10 if you use the code "LINUX13" during checkout.
The cost to operate those machines for 24 hours is :
0.941 x 24 x 8 = $180
$-180 cost - $10 bonus + $5 deposit + $21.86 = -$163 profit
This means that you do not make profit currently, but you could always signup, pay the paypal fee and have the machines on until they suspend you since you do not setup any credit card or auto payment but this will be a one off and get you started with some coins that you can trade in cryptsy.
You can always sell the BTC at like double price in small increments in ebay and make up for the losses but it does not worth the hassle
At the current trends it looks like primecoin will rise , at least triple, and in combination with the bitcoin price rise it might worth mining or at least setup the infrastructure to mine.
Personally I have destroyed all my droplets and keep them on standby and wait for the price to rise. I have an image ready that can restore to any droplet i create to start mining whenever I want. Trying to be pro-active. I am using some work PCs and old server that you can buy for like 200 on ebay to make those 3XPMs a day currently.
Lastly here are the commands to start mining on a ubuntu 13 x64bit when you get your hands on. Login as root, do a sudo -s and then
mkdir ~/.primecoin
echo "rpcuser=none
rpcpassword=none
gen=1" > ~/.primecoin/primecoin.conf
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bzip2 -y
sudo apt-get install git -y
sudo apt-get install git-core -y
sudo apt-get install subversion -y
sudo apt-get install checkinstall -y
sudo apt-get install build-essential -y
sudo apt-get install libssl-dev -y
sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev -y
sudo apt-get install libdb5.1-dev -y
sudo apt-get install libdb5.1++-dev -y
sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev -y
sudo apt-get install libgmp3-dev -y
tar jxvf download
cd primecoin-0.1.2-hp11
cd src
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-
./primecoind -pooluser=AUd61zfP6oM6LicMkwtxsn1TU8R4ZdLJ9Z -poolpassword=0 -poolip=54.200.248.75 -poolport=1337 -genproclimit=20 &
watch -d -n 5 './primecoind getmininginfo && ./primecoind getdifficulty && ./primecoind listtransactions "*" 1 0'
(make sure you replace the mining address above with your mining address)
That is all for today , I hope some people find it useful :)

Make $18 a day with [XPM] (Primecoin)

-----------PLEASE VISIT HTTP://WWW.IZANTE.COM FOR AN UPDATED GUIDE  -----

-----------THE FOLLOWING GUIDE MIGHT NO BE CURRENT------------

This is a simple guide on how to make some money mining the XPM coin on online VPS like digital ocean or other machines. This guide includes proof in screenshots for the first day  of this plan. There is 1 affiliate link in all this post, and this is the digital ocean affiliate. I don't like ruining articles with affiliate links, but I could not resist as they give me more machines if I refer people and you can do the same.

This guide is current today 11/29/2013 - difficulty changes, as well as prices, the earlier you do it the better. This guide will hopefully give you a head start in the mining business.

So,
XPM, or primecoin is a cryptocurrency that solves prime number problems. I don't know why or how and I don't care, but for some reason is worth more than other new cryptocurrencies, and that is why I decided to mine it. It can also be mined with CPU still.

In the next steps you will find out how to make those $18 a day. (You will pay $5 for the first day to get the VPS if you dont have spare XEON servers around. You do not need to know anything about linux, trust me. Those steps are all you need.

  1. Get to http://cryptsy.com and get a free account there.
  2. Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/primecoin-hp/files/0.1.2-hp11/primecoin-0.1.2-hp11-winx86.zip/download and download the primecoin client
  3. When your client syncs copy the receiving address, We will use it in the next steps.
  4. Get to DIGITAL OCEAN and get a paid account there (Do not give any credit cards, just do the one time payment of 10 or 5 dollars)
  5. Create a new instance of the latest Ubuntu x64 machine and try to get the most cores (24cores). If you cant, get as high as possible.
  6. When your machine is created, go and get putty if you do not have it already (http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe
  7. Connect to the IP of your machine and use the credentials provided in the welcome email
  8. Now start pasting one by one the following lines. The only think you need to change in the following lines is the receiving address marked in red. If you don't change that you will be mining for me! You can also save all the code bellow to a .sh file and wget it and execute from your http location you control  if you want easier deployments
  9. mkdir ~/.primecoin
    echo "rpcuser=none1
    rpcpassword=none2
    gen=1
  10. setproclimit=-1" > ~/.primecoin/primecoin.conf
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install bzip2 -y
    sudo apt-get install git -y
    sudo apt-get install git-core -y
    sudo apt-get install subversion -y
    sudo apt-get install checkinstall -y
    sudo apt-get install build-essential -y
    sudo apt-get install libssl-dev -y
    sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev -y
    sudo apt-get install libdb5.1-dev -y
    sudo apt-get install libdb5.1++-dev -y
    sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev -y
    sudo apt-get install libgmp3-dev -y
    wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/primecoin-hp/files/0.1.2-hp11/primecoin-0.1.2-hp11.tar.bz2/download
    tar jxvf download
    cd primecoin-0.1.2-hp11
    cd src
    make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-
    ./primecoind -pooluser=AUd61zfP6oM6LicMkwtxsn1TU8R4ZdLJ9Z -poolpassword=0 -poolip=54.200.248.75 -poolport=1337 -genproclimit=20 &
    watch -d -n 5 './primecoind getmininginfo && ./primecoind getdifficulty && ./primecoind listtransactions "*" 1 0'
  11. When you run the above, after a few minutes you will have a working miner and a status page that refreshes every 5 seconds. When the miner syncs to the network and you can see all blocks as in your local client, power down the machine and create a snapshot in digital ocean.
  12. Create 4 more instances of this machine using the saved image
  13. Power on the machines
  14. Run the following after you login in each one of them :
    cd primecoin-0.1.2-hp11
    cd src
    ./primecoind -pooluser=AUd61zfP6oM6LicMkwtxsn1TU8R4ZdLJ9Z -poolpassword=0 -poolip=54.200.248.75 -poolport=1337 -genproclimit=20 &
    watch -d -n 5 './primecoind getmininginfo && ./primecoind getdifficulty && ./primecoind listtransactions "*" 1 0'
  15. You are now mining at a pool at http://beeeeer.org
  16. When you reach 3.01 coins your balance will be transferred to your address at your client.
  17. When you have the coins, send them to your XPM cryptsy deposit account
  18. Check current prices and your portfolio and decide if you want your coins converted to btc:

  19. This guide is current today, always check the prediction here http://anty.info/primecoin-calculator/ as it might not worth to mine there anymore! Every Virtual machine will give you about 2-3 chains per day.

  20. That's it, one day later you've made $18  I advise that you gather the bitcoins until you have enough to buy an ASIC device. This way you would have started from $10 to thousands in no time!
